Fittr review – How does Fittr coaching work?

fittr review

Fittr is a fitness app where you can find over 1000 workouts, many meal plans, and useful fitness tools for absolutely free. In this Fittr review, we will go through the various things this app has to offer, check whether it’s suitable for everyone, and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of using Fittr as a fitness guide.

Key Takeaways & Highlights

The most important thing to talk about in this Fittr review is the general pros and cons of the app to decide if this is what you’ve been looking for.

You are making the right choice if:

  • You want an app that is offering plans based on a variety of goals.
  • You want a personalized meal plan.
  • You enjoy exercising with a professional coach.
  • You want an app with a great community.

You will not like this app if:

  • You want to use the app to the fullest without having equipment.
  • You expect to use every feature for free.

The Background of Fittr

Fittr’s journey started in 2014 when Jitendra Chouksey started working with 5 people on WhatsApp in order to help them reach their fitness goals. In January 2016, Jitendra founded what is today one of the most-used fitness apps in the world with an incredible 2.5 million users.

Having a 4.4 stars rating on Google Play Store, and an even bigger one of 4.7 stars on the AppStore is clear proof that the success of this app isn’t random. In this Fittr review, we will be going through all of the features making it successful and loved by many.

First Impressions of Using FIttr

When you open this app there is no way you aren’t going to be positively surprised by its colorful and simple design using vectorized images of people and fitness equipment.

After opening the app, you have to log in and start going through the personalization process which consists of 8 steps. Here, you will have to answer these questions:

  • What gender do you more closely identify with?
  • What is your date of birth?
  • What is your height?
  • What is your current and target weight?
  • What is your body fat percentage? There are pictures for your answer to be as close as possible to the truth.
  • How many times do you workout?
  • What’s your food preference? The options are vegetarian, non-vegetarian, eggetarian, and vegan.
  • What is your goal? The options are: Lose Weight, Gain Weight. Bodybuilding, Stamina & Mobility, Strength & Conditioning, Lifestyle Management, Injury Rehab, and Coach Guidance. You can choose only one.
  • Core Features

When you finish with the personalization process the app will start creating both your workout and eating plans. When this is done you will be able to start using the app and explore all of its features. So, let’s go to the best part of this Fittr review and talk about the workouts, meal plans, and some other very interesting stuff.

fittr review goal

As we mentioned before, this app has a huge catalog and offers more than 1000 exercises. To make things easier, using the personalization process, Fittr creates a multiple-week workout plan. This plan covers all the muscle groups with what are in Fittr’s opinion the best exercises for you to do.

For example, we’ve selected bodybuilding as our goal and got an intermediate 6 days per week program made of some seriously good exercises. The only bad thing about this workout is that you won’t be able to exercise at home because this workout requires gym equipment.

When you open your training plan, you will see all of the exercises listed with a short video where a professional coach is explaining the proper technique. There is also a short text about the exercise with a step-by-step guide under it.

Another thing we really liked is how the dosing of the exercises works. The app is recommending a certain number of sets and reps which can be manually modified if the recommended amount was either easy or hard for you to do.

You can remove or add sets, change the weight or the reps, or even remove the exercise and add another one in its place if you want. This is a great thing for the more experienced people because it allows them to modify the workout plan exactly as they want. And on the other hand, if you are a beginner you won’t have to worry about it because Fittr’s exercise selection is truly amazing.

These workouts do not include warm-up and cool-down sessions, so we would recommend when doing those in order to get better performance and reduce the chances of injuries.

Training with a coach

What we talked about before was Fittr’s free version. If you thought that was good workout programming, prepare to see how the coach feature works.

This is a paid feature that allows you to have a personal coach who will take care of your workout and diet plans, follow your progress, and make updates. The coach is also available to talk to and even have a 1 on 1 training session with. We will discuss the prices of this feature later in this Fittr review.

There are many coaches to choose from and to make your choice easier there is a lot of information you can get about the coach.

You can see if they are categorized as basic, standard, advanced, or premium coaches. Then, you can see the number of people he or she coached before, reviews, ratings, the coach’s specialty, their short description text, and photos or videos they’ve posted.

If you’ve made your choice, the last step is either contacting the coach directly or enrolling to be a part of his or her team.

Meal Plan

A surprising fact is that this is a free app that other than a workout plan offers a personalized meal plan as well. We mentioned that there are various options to choose from, so there are food choices for anyone’s taste and preferences.

To prepare for this Fittr review, we chose the non-vegetarian option and the app made us a 2500-calorie meal plan consisting of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. We really liked how there is a photo of the food or the drink along with a name, quantity, number of calories, and precise macronutrient quantity.

There were two things we didn’t like though. The first one is that on some foods when you click on the option to get more information about such as vitamin and mineral quantity it showed 0 in all categories.

And the second thing is that the plan consists of many eastern Indian foods, which is not very convenient for a person who is a stranger to that cuisine. However, there is an option to remove any meal you don’t like and choose the one you prefer. There are a lot of options to choose from, so you won’t have a problem finding what you are looking for.

Fittr is also tracking your food intake. When you finish eating a certain meal you can click on the checkmark next to it and the app will move it into the “consumed” tab where you can easily access your eating history.

Fitness Tools

The last feature we would like to talk about in this Fittr review is the free fitness tools. A total of 9 tools can really come in handy and make your fitness journey easier. Those are

  • Progress Tracker. This tracks both your training and dieting progress very thoroughly. It also tracks your steps taken throughout the day and is also giving you sleep analysis.
  • Google Fit. You can connect Fittr with Google Fit so you can keep track of many things you do.
  • BMR Calculator.
  • Body Fat Calculator.
  • Goal Calculator. This calculates the number of calories you need to reach your weight goal in a certain amount of time.
  • Macro Calculator. Here you can choose a diet type such as high or low carb, etc.
  • Calories Calculator. This calculates the number of calories burned based on how much time you’ve spent doing a certain activity.
  • 1RM Calculator. It calculates the maximum weight you could lift for only 1 repetition. There aren’t exercise many options, though. You can choose from squats, bench press, deadlifts, and overhead press.
  • Reminders. You can set the app to remind you to eat a meal, or drink water. There is an option for it to remind you to drink water every 30 minutes or 60 minutes as well as every 2,3 or 4 hours.

Fittr vs. Similar Apps

It is very rare to see a fitness app that offers that many tools and features. It’s easy to understand and very easy to use on an everyday basis. And the best thing is that everything is completely free.

Another thing we loved about this app is its community. Fittr’s community is full of very friendly and active people who are consistently posting pictures of their habits and their progress. They are also asking many questions and start discussions that can be very helpful and educational. The best thing is that the coaches are very active too and are a part of these discussions.

Another similar app is TRX. It is a great workout app that lacks meal plans and its exercises require you to buy the company’s equipment. However, if you choose to buy it you are in for a great fitness challenge.

If you want to use an app that will challenge you, but you don’t have any equipment, try Caliverse. It is a great app for everyone who prefers doing calisthenics exercises, but it also comes without meal plans.

Fittr is a freemium type of app. Most of its features come for free with an option to pay for a professional coach if you want to take this fitness guide to the next level.

The base 12-month price is 5500 INR, or $66.50. However, some coaches will maybe charge double or even triple this amount.

Another payment option is a 1 on 1 training session. You can book a Strength, Zumba, Yoga, or even a FITTR kids class for a price of 2 to 6 dollars. The price depends on the type of training and the coach.

We recommend you use the free version of the app first and follow the plans for a month or two. It’s important to see how well everything works for you, how you enjoy it, and if it’s sustainable for you.

You should consider paying for a coach If you feel lost, don’t get any results, and simply don’t know if what you are doing is right.

Final Review on Fittr and Opinions

In this Fittr review we went through every important aspect of this app. It is a very complete fitness app suitable for everyone who is ready to change their habits for the better and start the journey of achieving their fitness goals.

The exercise selection is on point, and the meals are well made and calculated, meaning that your answers to the personalization questions at the beginning are taken into consideration and are fully used.

As for the price, using the free version of the app is totally worth it and it doesn’t require you to pay for anything else. It’s completely your choice if you want to spend money and have a coach to guide you. It will be only a plus to an already great fitness experience.

Now, let’s go through a quick pros and cons list of everything mentioned in this Fittr review:

  • Numerous exercises suitable for everyone.
  • A meal plan with calorie and macronutrient tracking.
  • Professional coaches.
  • Great community.
  • One of the best exercise and nutrition personalizations in a fitness app.

  • Some of the macronutrient information are inaccurate.
  • There are many Indian foods that can be inconvenient for some people.
